The Problem

Why This
Exists

Heavy fleets are expensive, spread across the country, and run on tight schedules. Knowing what is happening — and what should happen next — is still largely done by phone and spreadsheet.

01

No Single Picture

Where every truck is, whether it is on plan, and which vehicles need attention should be one glance, not a round of calls.

02

Plans That Drift

A truck leaves its route, a leg overruns, a driver runs out of hours. Without live comparison against the plan, you find out after the fact.

03

Slow Assignment

Choosing which truck and driver cover a job means weighing distance, availability and driver hours by hand.

04

Alerts Nobody Trusts

A black-box fuel or payload alarm gets ignored. Operators need anomalies ranked for investigation, with the evidence attached.

Capabilities

What It Does

One operations portal covering the day-to-day of a heavy fleet — from the live map to the trip plan to the compliance calendar.

Command centre: map of South Africa with vehicle markers, a filterable vehicle list and fleet status counts Trip replay map from Pietermaritzburg to Durban showing a 77.5 km, 54 minute route with measured and calculated segments Needs-trucks board listing plans waiting for trucks, with candidate trucks ranked by distance and availability Fleet utilization dashboard with utilization percentage, total distance, idle vehicles and distance per vehicle Danger zones page with a form to add a zone and a list of existing zones
Command Centre — 70 vehicles, one live map

Screens show a seeded demo environment running on simulated telemetry — 70 trucks and 50 drivers across all nine provinces. Names, vehicles and figures are demonstration data, not customer data.

Process

How It Works

From a telemetry message to an explainable answer, in four steps.

01

Ingest

Telemetry arrives over MQTT through a single ingestion path. A simulator and real gateways use the same door.

02

Attribute

Messages are tied to the right vehicle, driver and sensor calibration at that moment in time, so history stays correct after reassignments.

03

Reconstruct

Trips, stops and route compliance are rebuilt from the raw stream and compared against what was planned.

04

Explain

Payload and fuel anomalies are ranked for investigation, linked to their supporting evidence, and never presented as proof.

Under the Hood

Built to
Plug In

The first release runs on deterministic simulated telemetry through the real ingestion path, so physical hardware can be added later without rewriting the portal or the business logic.

Working Today

Simulator as a First-Class Source

The simulator is a proper telemetry adapter, not a mock. Everything you see in the portal went through the same path real devices will use.

  • MQTT 5 device messaging
  • Trips, replay and planning on live-path data
  • No fabricated rows in presentation tables
  • Runs on a single workstation via Docker Compose
Next Step

Hardware Adapters

Physical gateways, weighbridges and OEM APIs slot in as adapters behind the same ports. Hardware-agnostic by design.

  • Industrial gateways over CAN / J1939 and LTE
  • Weighbridge integration for payload evidence
  • OEM telematics APIs
  • Thresholds configurable per tenant and vehicle class
The Stack
Platform

One Platform.
Every Operator.

Built as a modular monolith with clear boundaries, so each operator gets their own isolated, branded portal on the same core.

Isolation

Multi-Tenant

Each operator’s data is fully separate. Isolation is enforced in the application and backed by row-level security in the database.

  • Tenant hierarchy and operating units
  • Roles and operating-unit scopes
  • Row-level security backstop
  • Tenant-aware requests and background work
White-Label

Your Brand, Your Words

Colours, logo and terminology follow the operator. One tenant’s “fleet” is another’s “convoy”.

  • Per-tenant branding
  • Configurable terminology
  • Feature flags per tenant
  • Responsive, accessible portal
Accountability

Explainable & Audited

Every anomaly links to its evidence, and changes are recorded so operations can answer “who changed what, and when”.

  • Append-only audit records
  • Evidence-linked anomalies
  • Time-bound driver and device history
  • System log in the portal
